Welcome to
this journey

We are glad you are here. Before you begin, we want to share a few important things — with warmth and gratitude.

"Every answer you give adds a real piece to a picture the world is only beginning to understand."
Welcome

Thank you for choosing
to be part of this

Perhaps you found your way here after a phone call, perhaps after months of searching. Whatever the path, we are glad our journeys have met.

This guide is for you — so you know exactly what to expect, step by step, with no surprises. We want you to enter the experience ahead with a calm mind and an open heart.

You don't need to do anything perfectly. You just need to be present and honest with yourself.

Our study explores how ibogaine retreats influence people's lives — emotional wellbeing, relationship with substances, anxiety, life satisfaction. There are no right or wrong answers. We are not here to judge — we are here to understand.

Your data is fully anonymised and used exclusively for academic purposes at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Bucharest.

What we explore

Our research
directions

The study follows four key questions about how iboga transforms people — each direction explores a different mechanism of change.

Direction 1
Direction 1
Anxiety & Emotional Regulation

Many participants arrive with chronic anxiety they struggle to manage. We study whether iboga improves the ability to process difficult emotions — rather than avoid them — and whether this leads to lasting reductions in anxiety.

Direction 2
Direction 2
Flexibility & Meaning

Iboga often produces profound mystical experiences. We explore whether the depth of this experience opens the mind, increases acceptance of difficult thoughts, and provides a clearer sense of purpose — the core mechanism of transformation.

Direction 3
Direction 3
Self-Compassion & Self-Esteem

Many people treat themselves with a harshness they would never apply to others. We explore whether iboga cultivates a kinder relationship with oneself — less self-criticism, more acceptance — and whether this strengthens self-esteem over time.

Direction 4
Attachment & Life Satisfaction

Fear of abandonment and difficulties with intimacy deeply affect quality of life. We study whether iboga reduces attachment anxiety — and whether more secure relationships lead, over time, to greater overall satisfaction with life.

What comes next,
step by step

The study unfolds over one year, in 6 stages. Each stage takes 20–30 minutes. Links for T1, T2, T3 and T4 will be sent to you by email when the time comes — you don't need to remember anything.

T0
1–2 days before retreat · ~25 min
Assessment before the experience

The first questionnaire — the longest one. It captures who you are right now: how you feel, what you expect, a few questions about habits. This is the baseline against which we will measure everything that follows.

→ Open T0
T1
24–48h after retreat · ~20 min
Immediately after the experience

When you feel stable enough, you complete a short questionnaire about how it was. You don't need clear answers — what you feel in that moment is exactly what interests us.

T2
1 month after retreat · ~20 min
When the dust has settled

We ask how you are now, what practices you have started, what has changed in your life.

T3
6 months after retreat · ~20 min
What remains, what grows

At six months, we are curious what has stayed from the experience, what continues to grow and what has transformed. This is the most valuable questionnaire for our research.

T4
12 months · ~20 min
Looking back at a year optional

The final stage, entirely voluntary. You look back at a full year and reflect. If you choose to participate, we are deeply grateful.
